Black Diamond Apparel Spring 2014

by Dan Trew.

Rounding out our discussion of Black Diamond’s new offerings this season is apparel. Black Diamond took a step into the performance clothing world in fall of 2013. This spring, they bring several specific styles for the warmer and wetter seasons. access hybrid

The Black Diamond Access Hybrid Jacket is a blend of an insulating mid-layer jacket and the moisture wicking and    breathable aspects of a soft shell. The insulation for the jacket comes complement of 40g/m^2 PrimaLoft® ONE — one of the best insulation-to-weight materials out there. To still permit moisture management and give the jacket a little more stretch, Schoeller® NanoSphere® panels are integrated into the side of the jacket. The jacket itself is even compressible into its own chest pocket, so it takes up less room in your pack or at your side. With the two blended materials and excellent packability, the Access Hybrid is the perfect early spring jacket and can even be stretched into the colder mornings in the summer without adding bulk to your gear collection.

Extremely uscastletoneful and durable pants that look great are one of the joys of life, and the Castleton pant makes a welcomed addition into that category. The Black Diamond Equipment Men’s Castleton Pants  were designed from the seat down with durability and function in mind. Constructed from a cotton canvas and nylon blend, the Castleton pants can survive some of the harshest punishments you can deliver on pants. And with articulated knees and excellent gusseting around the crotch, they won’t inhibit your mobility or comfort.

The spring and summer months are often filled with days where a full hard-shelled rain jacket would be too hot or excessively protective. It’s with those days in mind that the Men’s Black Diamond Equipment BDV  Jacket was created. Utilizing Schoeller® stretch-woven materials with NanoSphere® technology, the B.D.V. gives great water resistance and breathability without compromising wind resistance. The surface of the NanoSphere® fabric is actually covered with millions of small ridges and valleys that prevent water from adhering to the surface of the fabric. This results in water simply beading up and rolling off of the jacket like a newly waxed car. As this is a property of the material of the jacket and not an additional treatment, this water protection never goes away, and  a light washing will restore it properties. Schoeller® is legendary for its long lifespan, so the B.D.V. jacket is one that will live with you for years to come.

Highlighting the Black Diamond Deployment Polo Shirt is a no-brainer. Blending the technical performance and comfort of merino wool and the style and function of a polo makes the Deployment Polo the first choice for work and play. The blend of 75% merino wool and 25% nylon provides the Deployment Polo with the tenacity to survive most of what your day can throw at it while also looking great.
