Based off of years of caving experience and fresh innovations in the sport, Petzl was born out of Crolles, France by Fernand Petzl in the year 1975. After two years on the market, Petzl released their first vertical harness, and by the early 80s, they had expanded their products from caving into pursuits like rock climbing, rescuing, and mountaineering. After releasing iconic products like their Grigri and Zoom Headlamp, Petzl started to manufacture ice climbing accessories as well as the first LED headlamp ever produced; this lead to them becoming pioneers of a range of activities. After Fernand's passing in 2003, the company's ownership shifted to his son, where Paul stands as Petzl's president. Petzl remains in good hands and continues to craft everything from harnesses, helmets, headlamps, and crampons all the way to their original Grigri.
