Well, it’s finally happened, the spring season has officially started to occur in the State College area. I’m now able to leave my house without being bundled up with down or other insulations, the clocks have been adjusted and are now granting us a bit more sunlight each day, and I’ve even been able to drive without the heat blasting onto my body.
What does all this mean to Appalachian Outdoors? Well, a few things, actually: muddy and sunny springtime hikes are now an option, we’ll be receiving all types of cool spring merchandise that I’m pretty darn excited to check out, but also that we’re doing a bit of spring cleaning in the shop. Spring cleaning in a sense that we’ve been steadily lowering the prices of previous season merchandise to let everyone take full advantage of the upcoming spring and summer seasons.
With spring weather comes the simple fact that there’s really no denying that one of the best ways to kick off the warmer seasons is with a new pair of shoes. Which is why, this week, we’ll focus on five different pairs of shoes that are sure to meet your summer and spring needs. From burly sandals all the way to muddy hikers, we’ll certainly cover a pair of shoes for all of you chaps out there (don’t fret ladies; we’ll get to you next week).
Sandals and summer go together like chocolate and ice cream, and Teva’s Omnium Sandals are far from an exception to that rule. Made for a bit more wear and abuse than your average sandals, the Omnium Sandals are perfect for those days that begin without a plan, but deep down inside, you know that you’ll end up on one of your favorite trails. Offering as much protection as a sandal can without being called a sneaker, the Omnium Sandals feature a Spider outsole that will keep you from slipping in the spring mud, as well as a Shoc Pad in the heel to protect from any sort of impact. Add in all of the ventilation that this sandal has, and you’re ready to hit everything from the beach and the boardwalk to some rushing, Pennsylvanian streams.
Merrell gives you the ability to run over any type of terrain that you like with their All Out Fuse Shoes. Designed to seamlessly carry you from the track, to the trail, and then onto the sidewalk, there really isn’t all that much that the All Out Fuse Shoes won’t be able to do for you. To keep you from slipping in the fresh snow runoff, these shoes utilize an M-Select GRIP with a ton of traction. And to make sure that your last run is just as fresh as your first; the All Out Fuse Shoes are equipped with a super breathable mesh upper as well as being treated with Merrell’s M-Select Fresh odour control. No matter where your feet take you, you can count on nothing short of versatile perfection with the All Out Fuse Shoes.
Though Lowa is usually pretty well-known for their awesome boots, their Pavo Shoes are a real testament to the fact that they extend that right down to their casual shoes, too. Crafted with an appearance that will carry you through the day with style, these shoes offer you a super-cool look for hitting the town. But don’t let all of this talk about casual styling fool you, because the Pavo Shoes do have a technical side that will surely impress your feet. Being made with a flexible and welcoming sole means that you get support combined with the right amount of flex in your every step; add in their durable, waxed nubuck leather upper and you’ll be ready for just about any situation.
