Mr. Humphreys hosted the first national fly fishing series on US television, “Fly Fishing Journal” which was cablecast on ESPN.  Since then, he has been the featured instructor on three fly fishing videos-“The Fly Fishing Series,” with Vestron and Live Entertainment.

He has also produced his own highly successful videos entitled, “A Casting Approach to Nymphing Tactics,” “A Casting Approach to Dryfly Tactics in the Brush,” “The Night Game,” and “A Casting Approach to Flyfishing to Catch Fish, Not Just to Cast.”

The Dry Fly and The Top Water GameThe Dry Fly and The Top Water Game
with Joe Humphreys

Features a reenactment, with his grandson, of a day that changed his life in an approach to fishing. This video covers how to work the water from the basis of fundamental fishing the stream to expert fishing the currents, flat water and riffles. It covers how to fish hatches from daylight to darkness including Caddis, Sulfurs and the Green Drake. Joe Humphreys, a veteran of over 70 years of flyfishing experience, referred to as the Angling Professor, retired from Penn State University after 20 years.

This video isn't just about flyfishing small, brushy streams; it's about techniques that can help you cast into difficult places. Trout can be in the most inaccessible areas - it's their protection from man, animal, and bird. Wherever you fish - from Maine to Georgia, in the mountains of the Appalachians, or the alder and tree-lined banks of the midwestern rivers, or the brushy willow and ever-green-lined streams of the Rockies, or the Sierras - there are casting challenges, limbs to go under and limited space from which to cast. Review this video often and accept the challenge of the brush. It will make you a better flyfisher, and add to your fishing enjoyment. And if you can cast in these conditions, you can cast anywhere.

This video features a concept mostly overlooked in today's instructional pursuits. This video employs the basic casting techniques that can get you into fish: nymphing, dryfly, brush casts that are absolutely necessary in the pursuit of game fish. This format, the fundamentals of casting, is not structured just for adults but children as well and can enhance anyone's success with a flyrod in the pursuit of game fish.

Joe Humphreys, a veteran of over 65 years of flyfishing experience, referred to as the Angling Professor, retired from Penn State University after 20 years.

I met Joe on the stream when he was a young lad, we've fished together for over 60 years. He is the best flyfisherman I know.

The Night GameThe Night Game

"I hope to give you enough insight in this video that you may enjoy success in catching fish. You will learn how to prepare; what equipment to use; where and how to find fish; How to nymph in the darkness; how to work big wet flies; fish the hatches from the bottom to the top; learn the Longline system, and how to rig for these techniques. Plus gain an appreciation for the beauty, the sounds and the serenity of the night."  Joe Humphreys

I fished with Joe since he was a small boy. He turned out to be the best fly fisherman I ever had in class or ever knew. When I knew I was going to retire in 1972 I hired Joe in 1970 and had him with me in one class to learn the way I taught. He then taught a class by himself. He taught all the classes until 1989 and is now recognized as the best in the U.S.

Joe Humphreys taught Flyfishing at Penn State for twenty years and has condensed that experience plus another 30 years of nymphing into 60 minutes of intense instruction and illustration.

Joe, this is the best tape I have ever seen on nymph fishing. Am glad we fished nymphs so many times together and learned a lot from each other.
George Harvey

Joe Humphreys' tape on nymph fishing is the very best there is because he is, quite simply, the best nymph fisherman in the world.
Bob Knight, Basketball Coach, Indiana University.

I fished with Joe and nobody has a better understanding of the sport or the love of it. Best nymphing system I've ever seen.
