Originally called "Marmot Mountain Works," Marmot is an outdoor brand started in 1974 out of Grand Junction, Colorado by a group of friends who were looking to redefine the paths of mountaineering apparel. Marmot's clothing was chosen to outfit a string of movies, and in 1973, cameraman Mike Hoover placed an order with the company that put them on the map in Grand Junction. After a couple successful years, Marmot partnered with W.L Gore & Associates to begin manufacturing products; this began with a few prototype sleeping bags that underwent a week of exposure to a cold meat freezer and fire sprinkler systems. After that grueling week, founders David Huntley and Eric Reynolds were so impressed with Gore's quality and skill that they redesigned their line to include Gore fabrication. This decision lead their company to even more praise and exposure, and Marmot was able to ride the wave of success for years. These days, Marmot is based out of Rohnert Park, California and they continue to make some of the best outdoor apparel out there. From sleeping bags and jackets to lightweight gear for the summer, Marmot is a brand that's established themselves as trustworthy and has crafted their products to a caliber of excellence and comfort that can't be easily matched.
