After the weekend rain storms it seems that our local forests are vastly decorated with the most unique and beautiful mushrooms imaginable. Some specimens are truly bizarre, case in point, the creature below.

Any guesses as to what this purple, nickel sized gem might be labeled as ? Any help in getting the answer to this burning question would be greatly appreciated !
