As the snow fell last week, a lot of us had our minds on one thing: getting outdoors and enjoying the wonderful weather! Geoff took full advantage of the conditions, grabbed his cross-country skis and his dog, and hit the woods around Laurel Run Road in Rothrock. Laurel Run Road offers both excellent cross country skiing when the conditions permit, and it also provides great access to other trails and roads in Rothrock State Forest. On this day, the snowfall was excellent and spending time with man’s best friend, especially on freshly-fallen snow, is darn near impossible to beat.

Like all outdoor activities, cross-country skiing is something that you want to be prepared to do safely and comfortably, and despite each of us having our own requirements, here are a few things that should be brought along: a map of Rothrock State Forest, a good pair of ski socks, a water bottle, a headlamp for after dusk, and proper clothing for the day’s conditions. And if you’re looking to rent a pair of cross-country skis before committing, we offer a rental service.
