While Rothrock offers excellent outdoor opportunities every month of the year, there’s something particularly special about it whenever there’s a nice blanket of fresh snow. Rothrock is packed with different trails and areas to explore, and today’s outing takes place along the Lonberger Trail–from hiking, to trail running, to cross country skiing when the conditions permit, Lonberger lets you do just about anything you’d like in the woods.
Where to begin and end: The trailhead of Lonberger Path, located on Bear Meadows Road roughly half-a-mile beyond the Tussey Mountain Ski Resort.

Like all outdoor activities, hiking in the winter is something that you want to be prepared to do safely and comfortably, and despite each of us having our own requirements, here are a few things that should be brought along: a map of Rothrock State Forest, a good pair of hiking socks a water bottle, a headlamp for after dusk, trekking poles, and proper clothing for the day’s conditions.
